Happy Valentine’s Day!

Whenever my students ask me about it, I tell them I’m a Valentine’s Day Scrooge, and that it seems like going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day costs twice as much and is half as good! It’s not a holiday we put a lot of thought into – although the most memorable was when my husband and I had bought the exact same card for each other!

But this year at school there was a random Valentine match and I decided to sign up to make a Valentine for another staff member. I was matched with the school librarian, so, of course, not only was I going to make an edible, I was going to make it like a book! I had never done anything like this, and there were some mishaps, but I managed to make – and keep intact – three “pages” and tie them together with Twizzlers!

I also continued the Valentine theme with the design on my bread this week, which may become my signature pattern, and Hank bought me a bottle of wine as soon as we saw the name as I can’t resist anything with a bear on it!
