Foodie Find in Augusta, ME: Oak Table and Bar

Mostly when we spend time on Echo Lake in Fayette, ME, we cook our meals at the cabin we rent. But we have a new find this year, the Oak Table and Bar on Water Street in Augusta. Our first visit was the day we arrived in Maine, to spend the night at a hotel so we could arrive at the cabin early the next morning, and we liked it so much we returned for a second visit before we headed home!

Not only is the food phenomenal, the real fun is sitting at the kitchen counter at the back of the restaurant space that only seats 6. (There is also seating in the front room of the space, but that’s not nearly as much fun.)

Eli is the chef and owner of this new endeavor, and as we watched him cook, we chatted with Eli and our fellow diners about Maine, the weather, farm markets, and recipes.

The menu, which changes nightly (although some items will continue for a few days), comprises three columns of 4 items each: $11, $15, and $19. For $49, you get four plates: two items from the $11 column and one each from the $15 and $19 column. There is a nice range of wines by the glass, which we enjoyed, as well as some interesting cocktails, several offerings of scotch, and beers.
